One of the local guys here buys himself a new car (same engine, same model etc) every year so he dosen't have to go through the hassle of "servicing" it..

If it's costing him €4000 ish for a Focus, Auris, Astra or similar it's justifiable if he has the cash to spare, tyres, servicing etc do all add up. Not my cup of tea though but each to their own.

320e for tyres, 150e for a service etc doesnt add up though

I wonder about some people, if it costs 3-4k every year to trade up how the hell is that cheaper then servicing it?

I used to sell clients a new car every year, used to only cost maybe 1100 or so in old money cost to change........them was the days.

    Was madness back then,more now.

Is he doing 100000 kms a year or something?
Same make, model & engine. Boring!:D

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

That sounds very cheap, I would have thought it would be closer to 5k

He only does 11k kms a year. I would die of boredom looking forward to a new Corolla every year.

if you're going to do that you might as well get a new interesting or unusual sporty type car.

some people are just doomed to always be boring and dread a flat tyre or full ashtray like its the end of the world

Complete Madness. Not just financially, environmentally or socially. But technically - the guy never gets the best of the car, as his car is constantly in the run-in mode. The next owner gets all the benefits - quieter, smoother and more efficient engine, run-in gearbox and other components. And he gets it cheaper.

This fella goes one better. Buys a new Focus every year and puts same number plate on it (except for year, of course)

I remember that last year..;). Was he living in Abbeyleix or something like that???

Every year is a bit over the top but many people change every 3 and to be honest, with something cheapish like focus etc, there would not be a mad pile of cash in the difference. Some think that doing away with the need for servicing, tyres and perhaps even motor tax if they get a year thrown in on the sale is worth the extra few quid over selling every 3 years.
In my opinion though, it is madness to trade within the warranty period so 3 years is probably reasonable

Yup.........quick year. Lives in Portlaoise. We were having a discussion on whether he pays extra for the 201 plate. Was actually talking to the salesman in garage yesterday but completely forgot to ask about it.

But averaged out is changing every year and only throwing petrol in it much more expensive than changing every 3 years after throwing maybe a grand at it in services and tires ? ALso he obviously wants a new car every year too, I wouldn't do it but over three years he may be 5000 extra down as opposed to changing it every 3 years. And he always has a new car, many folks like that.

LOL, wait until he tries to trade that one in against the all new Focus next year. He might be in for a shock at the cost to change price.

It makes no sense to replace your car every year, when i buy i car i dont worry about the year to be hOnest, I try to get a car with the lowest mileage possible and a good service history. Its important that you get the mileage verified independantly tho as the newer cars are very easy for someone to clock and it adds a grand or two in value in seconds.
