The instructions here seem to have worked for a few people.

    Also have a read here.

Whenever you're done, uninstall McAfee and install proper antivirus software. And be careful out there ;)

Get rid of McAfee, it's rubbish. Have a look at Microsoft's Security Essentials. Its free and surprisingly good.

If the scans are taking a long time then it's usually useful to stop and then to clear out temporary files before scanning again. Download TFC from here and run it.

Malwarebytes is a great on-demand scanner. But that sounds like a rootkit, and you should also give it a pass with a rootkit scanner, you want to do this anytime you encounter a program like Scareware ("Buy this now or else!") or any program that tries to impersonate security software - like a fake virus scanner:

    http://security.symantec.com/nbrt/npe.asp?lcid=1033

Even if it appears gone, you better nuke the whole site from orbit, just to be sure :) (you can undo changes if it deletes something you dont want it to, but it hasnt done that to me yet)

MSE and Avast are decent freeware Antivirus programs. If you want to go back to pay-ware, Lots of people swear by Nod32, and I like Norton.

If you've only lost your homepage then you can set it to whatever you like in Tools > Internet Options (assuming you're using Internet Explorer).

If that's not what you mean then copy the Malwarebytes log into a post here so we can have a better idea about what was fixed. To do this, start Malwarebytes, click on <logs> and double click on the log file to open it.

What did you try exactly? You said earlier "I have a full internet connection". Did you mean that you can access the Internet okay and that it's just your home page that's not set in your browser? Just to clarify, do you have Internet access or not, i.e. can you access websites normally?

I seem to have full coverage even tho o2 says they have network problems.I cant seem to get onto my homepage through my browser and i tried through the tools bar and lan settings.

I think I'm running out of different ways to ask the question. I'll try one last time

Just forget about the home page for a minute? Now can you access any websites whatsoever - Yes or No?

    No...

You need to give more precise information rovers and answer the question you've been asked, otherwise it is very difficult to help you. It's understandable if you don't understand how to describe the problem but please be more explicit in describing what you actually did.

So your home page is essentially a bookmark that is opened by default when you open your browser or when you click the home button. If you tell us you can't access your home page that doesn't tell us you can't access any page.

This is why the responses you got related to setting your home page in your browser. If you say you have "full coverage" do you mean that your mobile broadband appears connected with a strong signal? Even if this is the case this doesn't mean that you can connect to the internet. You may have connected to O2's servers but if they have issues then you won't be able to load websites.

To test if you have an internet connection you could try and ping or traceroute google.com. This is usually a good way to see where things are going wrong.

For example I'm currently in India (on a Mac) behind a proxy server and I get the following:
    traceroute www.google.com
traceroute to www.l.google.com (209.85.153.104), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets
     1 10.208.242.1 (10.208.242.1) 2.899 ms 2.591 ms 2.652 ms
     2 10.10.2.57 (10.10.2.57) 1.331 ms 1.131 ms 1.201 ms
     3 10.1.1.2 (10.1.1.2) 1.185 ms 1.869 ms 1.083 ms
     4 144.16.64.100 (144.16.64.100) 2.367 ms 2.421 ms 1.793 ms

     8 115.255.236.45 (115.255.236.45) 97.558 ms 84.242 ms 50.630 ms
     9 216.239.43.142 (216.239.43.142) 61.406 ms 39.991 ms 48.791 ms
    10 66.249.94.223 (66.249.94.223) 95.377 ms 88.963 ms 52.396 ms
    11 66.249.94.244 (66.249.94.244) 103.024 ms 102.239 ms 90.792 ms
    12 209.85.249.74 (209.85.249.74) 77.646 ms 92.767 ms 112.202 ms
    13 64.233.174.153 (64.233.174.153) 111.827 ms * 102.167 ms
    14 bom01s01-in-f104.1e100.net (209.85.153.104) 122.666 ms 127.914 ms 93.819 ms

Each entry in the list tells me each machine that my request for data from google has gone through. Think if it like tracing a phone number in the movies.

To do this in Windows do the following.
    Click Start.
    Click Run
    Type CMD
    Press Enter

(If you're on Vista or Windows7 just type CMD into the search box in the Start Menu)

A window like this will appear:
    ResizedImage600300-windows-cmd-1.png

    Type:
    tracert www.google.com
and press Enter. You'll see a list similar to that above appear. If it only gets to O2 servers and not to google then the issue is with O2 not you. If it doesn't get beyond your machine the issue is local.

You can copy and paste the information by right clicking and selecting "Mark" and post the results back here. You can also run ping in the same way but this better for diagnosing latency issues.
