Not sure what vodafones unlock policy is but a call to vodafone would tell ya

Tried that but their call centre doesn't deal with unlocks and referred me too the website and when I did that they didn't recognise the imei?

Could she not just port her number over to vodafone and use that sim in the phone? It might be easier. I'm not actually sure that would work but it might be worth asking.

Vodafone are the only ones that can tell you that. I can't understand how their Tech Support don't look after unlocks. if they don't who does?

the Chinese/African shops in around Moore St and Parnell St will unlock any phone for around €20, wait till they do it then barter with them or pretend you've got much less than you have.. it works every time. I had a phone a few years ago with O2 i wanted to unlock and at the time they wanted me to spend €100 on credit before they'd give me the code for it..

Why would ya pay them to use a free tool to unlock an iPhone
I'd say this one has 4.2.1 if it was only got recently so the baseband will be 03.xx.xx which isn't unlockable yet

I know some people that work in phone unlocking and as far as they know most of the iphone 4s cant be unlocked yet.

01.59.00 is the only unlockable iPhone 4 baseband but if ya updated to 4.1 the baseband will be 02.10.04

ive unlocked 2 vodafone iphones for family.

you have a few options :

if its a PAYG iPhone 4 then get somebody that has a bill pay account and unlock it through their bill pay account, ive done this twice. i unlocked my cousins PAYG iPhone 4 through my dads bill pay account.

also if its a PAYG iPhone, then put €130 credit into it and then Vodafone will unlock it.

if its a bill pay iPhone then vodafone wont unlock it unless you are finished the 18 month contract or you pay up the remainder of the 18 month contract.

    Ring them and ask

They won't do it for 18 months they said apple won't allow them?

No much can be done then. What baseband has it got, go to settings>general>about and look for modem version

that will make no difference if he got the iPhone on Bill Pay through them, he will have to wait out the contract.
they will unlock most phones after 6 months as my dad got a Galaxy S on upgrade and had to wait 6 months to unlock it, but they will unlock PAYG phones there and then most of the time.

    That's not Apple's decision, its Vodafone's.

Was on to vfone again and they won't do it the monkey in customer care said it's apple that won't unlock it some agreement they have with them
For the first 18months of contract.

I got an iPhone 4 on a Vodafone bill pay upgrade last week.

I am on Vodafone pre-pay myself so I rang them this morning, asking on the off-chance, could I get it unlocked.

I have been topping up by €20 a month for the past 2 years or so and he unlocked the phone there and then for me!

So maybe get someone who is a steady user on Vodafone pre-pay to ring up and ask to get it unlocked?

    Might be worth a punt!
