Drogheda running

I fellow runner stopped me out runing today in Drogheda and asked if I minded if he joined up with me, unfortunately I was almost home so there was no point and I had to decline.

However I would be interested in hooking up with someone in the Drogheda general area for some longer runs especially. So if that guy is a boardsie and reads this or anyone else for that matter is interested in joining up for some running please let me know, here or by PM.
    :)

This doesn't really answer your question and is really just an observation. Was in Drogheda today (which has a large population) and saw a few people out running (maybe 3?).

I was in Stamullen then (quite a small place) and met about 12/14 people running there! Just struck me as kind of strange and I wondered why. I know there are a lot of hills around the centre of Drogheda while Stamullen is on the whole quite flat?

I am not running at the moment as I have been sick so am watching out for runners everywhere. Also saw a lot of new runners around, today must be the start of the new resolutions. Great to see.

It's because of the new year, you won't see them there in a month.

Don't know if Drogheda is higher or lower than national average for runners, I passed a few myself whilst out today(gong inthe opposite direction obviously ;) ). One thing though you'll rarely see runners in centre of town if that's where you were as its not very runner friendly and there are plenty of good routes around the perimeters and nearby areas such as Ardgillian Park, Bettystown or Seapoint Beach, Oldbrige house, the Ramparts etc. so would depend on where you were. Can't comment on Stamullen except to say I sometimes run through it myself on long runs.

Yeah was in the centre of town and was thinking it is not a great place for running alright. Tracked Stamullen tho in car (from Gormanstown college) up through town to end was all path and came up about 5K so that would be ok run out and back I might do one of these days.

I tend to run around Skerries, don't know Oldbrige Hse or Ramparts? Wouldn't mind a change of scenery and am working up to Ardgillan (and all the hills:p)

Well perhaps not all of them I'd say a 60% drop off rate after a month or two...depends if they get shin splints or not I guess :)

Ramparts start either side of the bridge of peace, I usually park in the town park, it leads all the way out along the Boyne under the M1 Bridge and you can continue on into Oldbridge house grounds (Battle of the Boyne site).

Argillian is certainly not for the faint hearted the hills are pretty steep alright, but a great spot for running.

I was in star of the sea in my youth!
Gormanstown, for both indoor and outdoor was there 'base' when I was with them anyway, but that was years (and years) ago!
How long is the rampart run? We used to run down the Ramparts then up by the bus depot up the donore road and across Marleys lane for PE (that was decades ago too)- I'd imagine thats a good 5 or 6km route if not longer?

Drogheda and District Ac are the senior running club in Drogheda. Boyne AC are for the kids. Both clubs train up at Meadowview with structured training on Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings and do the long run at the weekend. You'll be training on grass too so you'll save those knees.:)

Give Star of the Sea AC a try as well. They have an active juvenile section as well as adults.

Spotted a gang of about 17 (mostly female) joggers running down the Donore Road at about 7.55 last night - wonder who they were

That would have been Drogheda & District AC runners who were out for a road run.
