Contact Cadillac and see what they say?

You could probably get it done in Dublin by some dealership

Just order the parts from the USA and any mechanic can do it. Theres a lad in kilkenny who imported a 05 Dodge Ram Rumble Bee and he must be doing that.

I doubt the engines are too advanced, being American and all, so any decent mechanic should be up to it if you have the parts.

No offence but of all the cars in the world why would he want to import one of them

There's one of these in Limerick in John Moloneys, the sheer size of the thing is unreal! Not as imposing as a Hummer, but it has a huge boot among 7 or 8 seats, nearly as long as a bus! :L

The Escalade shares the same powertrain components as the Hummer, so anyone with experience of these can service the Escalade.

FYI, they also share the same engine, tranny etc as a Chevrolet Suburban, Silverado or Tahoe.

Regarding servicing, there is actually very little to do that is difficult.

Oil changes, tranny fluid changes (after 100,000 miles) and air filter changes are as simple as pie as there is a lot of space in the engine bay. There is also the distinct advantage of not needing ramps as they are easy to crawl under!

Spark plugs etc do not need changing for 100,000 miles also.

The first issues your dad could face will be with brake components and tires, but you should be able to source these from the UK.

Of course if there is an accident body parts will be very tough to get

Although the Escalade looks a bit bling it is a fantastic vehicle. The only downside is the cost of fuel - you will get 14 mpg tops combined and the lack of parking spaces here.

No, really, we don't. When I'm Minister for Transport you're being put in a Fiat 500, you know that ;)

As PKiernan said, its basically a suburban in a cocktail dress. Drivetrain and basic underpinnings are the same. Find somone who knows those GM vehicles and you'll be fine.

Engine service parts as well as brake pads are available here spurious from blueprint. Any decent motorfactors can get them.

They are not a complicated car to work on. It would of course be wise to sort a US or UK supplier(US would be much cheaper) for other non service items that may be needed.

By the way, there are 2 for sale on Carzone.

    2004 models I believe priced below €25000.

Your old man would be saving about 50 grand if he got one of these.

He should also look at the GMC Denali, basically the rich white mans version of the Escalade, and a little more subtle.

They would be old models, The new model is nothing special on the road but its 100% better then the older models.

The only place I'd want to bring an Escalade is the scrapyard

it wouldnt be my cup of tea..
but fair fecks to your dad, if he likes them go for it...

    Them buses are huge!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_Escalade

    From 2007+ , the standard Escalade comes with a 6.2 V8 :D

Actually, some interesting reading on wiki. Its 5.15 meters long, comes with " heated and cooled cupholders" and some are also manufactured in Russia!

any decent mechanic should be able to sort it out, after all most of it has 90's technology, mechanically, thats the way the Americans do it, big, simple and strong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭GiftGrub100

Not as backward in technology as we all think, rented one in the states last year and it had a reverse camera in the rear view mirror, auto dipping main beam headlights, remote engine start and the most wonderful V8 engine sound ever, would be worth looking at the GMC Yukon XL Denali though as a previous poster mentioned as it has the same engine etc and is much cheaper to buy though less bling to look at. Assume you are going for the XL model for maximum size - Its longer and has more boot space and some extra seats.

There is a huge amount of space in the engine bay and as far as I know they are now sold in the UK by GM themselves so parts and servicing will be less of an issue that it would have been.

UK magazine CAR recently reviewed the HYBRID Escalade:

    Thanks for playing.

re: engine noise, didn't think it was that attractive once in the cabin.

But overall, it would turn your head for sheer scale, big rims.
