External insulation and roof insulation junction

    Hi,

Would appreciate peoples thoughts on this.

Building to passive specification. Externally insulated masonry Walls. Roof is slates, batten, counter batten, solitex, 80mm soft board, 225mm rafter fully filled with cellulose and airtightness layer.

I'm considering the junction between the EWI and my roof insulation. Standard detail appears to be that the Eps boards have spaces cut in to them for each individual rafter and they are then pushed up between the rafters until the Eps comes into contact with the underside of the solitex (or in my case the soft board). This strikes me as troublesome and prone to gaps where the rafters pass through the Eps. Fascia board is in place so access to foam see will be limited.

I am considering this alternative. I would close off the underside of the rafters using 22mm soft board before fitting the EWI. The eps would then but up against this and not pass up between the rafters. When the cellulose is then pumped into the roof, the space above the 22mm soft board would be insulated. Although pricier this strikes me as a nice option.

Would anyone have any concerns with this approach?

I hope my explanation is clear enough. If not please ask questions and I may attempt a sketch.

    Thanks,

    Sas
