Pillars of the Earth

I treated myself to a boxset for Christmas. Pillars of the Earth is an 8 part drama set during the anarchy of King Stephen in medieval England. The story focuses on a mason as he attempts to build a cathedral in a monastary, all the while having to contend with the turbulent political obstacles that stand in the way of this magnificant structure. Its based on the highly regarded novel by Ken Follet.

Anyone else watch this? There are some issues with the acting but all in all its utterly terrific. I particularly like the way women are portrayed (As strong minded, intelligent, independent and fierce characters. Unfortunately Hollywood insists on portraying women as both weak and frivolous in both film and drama so it is refreshing to see such strong portrayals)
