3 doors or 5?

Sorry if this is a well worn question, but I'm downgrading this year, and have pretty much settled on a Fiesta. However, I'm wondering of the difference between a 3 door and 5 door. I have no great need for the back doors (although I was grateful for them during the recent cold weather when I couldn't open my boot and had to go in over the back seats :D) but do I gain anything up front (legroom, etc) by going 3 door?

I'm going from a Focus, and assuming I notice the difference in space inside (although I've been led to believe that the newer Fiestas are no slouch in this department), would I be better off plumbing for the 3 door and snapping the seats right back? Or is there basically not much of a difference between them?

    Hmmm

I have no family and have had a 3 door Focus and currently(till Tuesday) have a 5 door Focus.

    Pros

The 3 door focus is sportier looking imo.

    Cons

You will always have to put something on the back seat and every so often somebody will need to sit back there.

For some mysterious reason people have no idea how seats fold in 3 door cars. WHY?

The doors are longer causing car park annoyances.

I've got both a 5 door and a 3 door car and I'd kill to have the 5 doors on it...

Car parks are the biggest problem by far for me. Can put the 5 door in and get the door open in the same space that I'd have to be a gymnast to get out the 3 door.

Ah, that never even occured to me that the doors would be longer and so would open wider. Yeah, that's a big drawback.

had a three door astra and hated it because anyone in the back wanted out then the one in the front had to get out to let them push the seat forward and they would push the door into the car beside you. bought a leon nice looking hatchback but 5 doors

    Might not be relevent.. but:

Resale on 3 door. - can't sell them to people with kids. too annoying to insert kid in kid seat versus 5 door.

3 doors' doors are heavier, so hinges sometimes have issues.

Reaching back for seatbelt on longer door is annoying or dificult on 3 door.

When you have to load that big item in the back with the seats down, the back doors are hady on a 5 door too...

Can't see a reason for a 3 door on a regular car. IMHO.

I'd say 9 out of 10 Fiestas sold are 5 doors due to their extra practicality. I'd say the same goes for other cars in the same class as the Fiesta.

BTW their isn't really a huge amount of difference in interior cabin space between the new Fiesta and the soon to be replaced Focus. Granted the Focus has a bit more leg room and a larger boot but the Fiesta is still a very spacious car for it's size.

My previous car was a 3 door and the fact that it wasn't a 5 door drove me mad.

It was that coupled with lack of space in the back (Mini Cooper) made me change the car.

I'm now driving a 5 door and must say that the extra door and extra space in the back are excellent.

I have no family but would do a good bit of driving with friends etc...

On something like a Fiesta I would definitely recommend that you go for the 5 door.
