Was enjoying the digital reception on the irish channels great picture and working grand, then on the 25th Dec it just went and have scanned most days since with no luck.. I am in Mayo area and am puzzled as to why the signal just went.

I am wondering if anyone else having this problem?
Could it be my aeriel or the frosty weather that caused some fault?
or is the signal just down in this area....

Had no stormy weather to knock the aeriel off and I still have old rte signal.

    Help????

Mayo is a big area . . . How long were you receiving the channels before they disappeared?
I know in more northern areas there were reports of reception from distant transmitters (weather related I believe) especially on Christmas eve.
By the next day the channels were no longer receivable but this may not apply to your situation.

I am in east Mayo on Sligo and Roscommon borders, and we had the digital signal for approx four months. I'm not sure if the signal is coming from Ballyhaunis or Truskmore.

Sounds like a problem with your own equipment TBH, maybe water got in somewhere.
What are the analogue channels like & how many do you have?
Also it should be fairly easy from that location to work out what transmitter you are using by the way the aerial is pointing. Do you have more than 1 aerial?

The rte analogue picture is fine same as always was. Have rte1 2 tv3 and tnag4 bbcs not great but never were v good anyway...One aerial outside..

I'll post a pic of the aerial tomorrow eve, I don't know where to start looking for probs with my set up. I have a booster in the attic and the light is on and green. Theres a small box at the bottom of the aerial taped on, maybe there, oh I haven't a clue..

I probably have to get someone out....

    I'll post pic tomorrow anyway....

The lower aerial is VHF which I assume is pointing at Truskmore (north east of your location?).

The upper one is a UHF grid type, which would be pointing south east relative to the other one (maybe a 'deflector' for UK channels?). This probably picks up TV3 & TG4 from Truskmore even though it's pointing the wrong way. The Saorview signal is also UHF.
The box should be a diplexer to combine the signals from both aerials.

I can't see anything to explain any sudden failure.
Maybe the digital signal isn't strong enough (or maybe I'm completely wrong), someone with local knowledge would be more of a help!

In Carrick on Shannon area and the signal comes and goes. After 10.00 at night it's usually ok but gone during the day. The analogue channels are poor. No radio stations when the digital channels stop working.

Can you tell us what Channel works at night, eg 48 52 etc etc and then we can guess where it comes from :)

RTE, TV3 and TG4 seem to come to life after 10.00. Also the RTE news channel.

What channel number ???? We require a 2 digit number between 20 and 70. Look in tuning menu.

I suppose for the moment all I can do is keep scanning and see if it returns...

I would turn the top aerial to face the same way as the VHF one (assuming it's still pointing at Truskmore) & scan UHF channel 53.

I wouldn't bother with 'deflectors' for UK services, FTA satellite is a much better idea.

Sound and no video indicates a non compatible TV with MPEG-2 video decoder. MPEG-4 decoder required for the Saorview channels.

Post the model no., Saorview STB probably required with that TV.

Sony started to release MPEG-4 TVs about 2008, purchased a V4500 about April 2008 - audio and video OK but no digital text with Ireland set as the region.

    its kdl-40v4xxx

The V4000 & V42xx are MPEG-2 only. STB required with those TVs.
