    Hi guys,

    Have 07 Avensis, D4D.
When I drive the car first thingh in the morning, and come to the first stop, the brakes sound a bit rough, like they're rubbing off something. Its not a sqeaking or scraping sound, but do you think its the break pads? After two or three breaking actions, the brakes are quiet again as the car warms up.
    Could it be break fluid?
I know if I go to advance or fast-fit, they just advose replaing the entire brakes or something dramatic.

    Appreciate any advice?

say how many miles on clock, has it been regualrly serviced, look in the manual, you may have a brake pad wear indicator, does it have discs all round, do you leave handbrake on in the very cold weather?

All the salt and grit on the roads these days means the disc surface has a lot of grime on it which may be left sitting for a few days so its most likely just the initial cleaning effect causing this noise...worth checking pad condition etc....

it only started happening after i did a couple of long journeys during the cols snap.
Can remember if it was damp out this morning or not. will check in the morning first time I drive.

    thanks for the replies.

reason I asked about the wet was because it's quite normal for a thin layer of oxidation or rust to form on the surface of the disc when it is damp or wet out, this wears off after a few seconds use, sometimes it can make the pedal feel a little rough
