EXHAUST GAS WARNING LAMP ON - CAN I DRIVE CAR?

    vw golf 08 exhaust gas warning lamp continously on since yesterday! Manual says could be lambda probe.

    Can i still drive car short journeys without damaging engine till I get to garage next week!!

    What does the manual say?
    Generally orange warning lights mean get it sorted ASAP (drive to dealer) whilst red mean stop now and tow car to dealer.

    You can get away with it alright but prolonged use can mean damage to the cat. Garage reset my light and I drove on it for a week before it was fixed. They said it was fine shorterm.

    Manual says,

    if warning lamp lights up(which it did)a fault has developed during driving which has reduced the quality of the exhaust gas eg lambda probe fault. Reduce your speed immediately and drive carefully to the nearest qualified workshop to have engine checked.

    2 weeks ago got car serviced and told they me they had to change fuel filter?? For few days beforehand car hegging slightly when car idle. Going fine up hills.

    Will bring car to vw dealer when they open but in the mean time??
