I hve 14 suckler cows in good condition and due to calve in feb march. They are in calf to limo and housed on slats

how much silage should i give them each day. is one round bale per day too much for them?:confused::confused:

this is one that i am working on at the moment, i would allways have given the cows all that they can eat but after reading on here lads only give them a certain amount so this year the cows are in very good condition and a bale is lasting 3 days between 7 cows they are waiting in the morning for there silage.

sounds like more than enough unless its very low DM silage

silage with a DM of over 30% would do twenty cows per day where as silage with 20% might only do 15

cows are eating a lot less this last few days than they were during the freezing conditions , very noticable

id be giving them some good feeding straw along with the silage, and maintain condition. there is nothing worse than a fat cow at calving, well in milkers anyways, im sure the same follows through for sucklers.

FIT cows, ready to consume copious amounts of grass.

Hi max12, can you get hay? just wondering why you are asking the question, are you running short of silage?
Dry cow minerals would be wanted from now on. You have them in calf to a limo, do you know if he goes much over time and if he is easy calving or not?
