What do people make of the Laguna? Been offered a 2009 Dynamique Hatch 1.5dci with Tom Tom sat nav, 10,000 miles for €16,500. The slightly facelifted model. I know they are not top of the class but they seem to have quite a lot going for them, low cost, well equipped and refined family car, and this one seems like great value.

    Any opinions?

I had a 01 laguna and it was easily the worst car ive owned, renault have a reputation for being unreliable and it is justified imo.

That's like comparing a 2001 Punto to a 2009 Punto. The '09 Laguna has excellent reliability, good engines and great specs. Go for it.

They're really supposed to be a decent car and problems should be apparent now as it's out more than three years. I've never had one but two reps I know report no problems and both cars now have in excess of 200k KM on the odo. The old model seems to be quite problematic but I really think Renault have pulled up their socks reliability wise with this one. The only reservation I'd have would be the engine size. Is it big enough for your needs?

1.5dci? Hope you're not planning to do any hill starts. Had one as a rental on holidays this year. Shockingly underpowered engine. Makes public transport look viable.

    Lauguna Factoid:

On release the laguna had, despite the supple suspension, the lowest specific roll angle in its segment.:P

Interestingly so have I a 01 and I've not much trouble with it at all. Still my daily driver. A lot has happened in 10 years. We have the Scenic with the 1.5 dci engine also which is pretty good and very economical so far.

It's 110bhp. It's not going to be setting land speed records but it's grand. I'd say pretty much every Laguna III on the roads here is a 1.5 Dci.

It's a ton and a half too and there is a serious lack of torque in that engine. I'm not joking about hill starts. I had to rev the nuts off it to stop sliding backwards. :(

The mother has the same engine in a new megane estate and it's fine. Te megane is over 1300kg
