Mount Leinster - Picture break up

As a follow up th thread

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=69422716#post69422716.

Well I got the latest driver for this card and no joy.
Research on the Web would seem to indicate issues with this card and windows 7 and DTT.

Under the assumption I should be able to get DTT, I bit the bullet and got an Edision Argus mini 2in1 IP. Not the most intuitive of interfaces but as hoped for all the Irish DTT channels came in fine.
However every few seconds the picture breaks up for about a second and it does this on all the DTT channels (Sat is fine).

Any suggestions as to possible causes ?

Poor signal or antenna not correctly aligned toward Mt Leinster (Analogue TV3 and TG4 Perfect) ?
antenna of wrong type for location (south Laois - Square grid type)
Poor cable (been there nearly 30 years from old BBC deflector days)?.

The periodic nature of the break up would suggest to me that my signal is fine and break up is related to something at the transmitter end or would this be an incorrect assumption?

The idea of getting up on the roof to troubleshoot moving antennas and replacing cables etc is not a very appealing prospect especially if there is not actually anything wrong with my kit !

    Cheers

    bg

If your analogue is good then it could be that the Welsh Freeview mux on channel 45 is interfering with the Saorview signal.

If you can get a strong UK signal from Wales on Ch42, 43, 46, 49 then it most likely is welsh interference on Ch45.

If I remember correctly the OP is on the Loais/Kilkenny border so I doubt interference is an issue.

I'm no expert so maybe one of the more experienced members can comment but if you are getting TV3 and TG4 perfect on analogue there could be a possibility your Aerial is the wrong group type for DTT hence the poor signal.

Mount Leinster DTT works with a group "B" aerial, there may be another DTT source you could try :- see the DTT reception map here. There is an infill transmitter in Kilkenny that will work with a group C/D aerial, it might be more compatible with your current Aerial. If it's possible to for you to reach your Aerial it might worth adjusting it to see if you can get a signal from there.

The skip is up all day today, I'm getting signals from 200 miles away so anything is possible.
