    How does it work?
You put a deposit down for your stalking rifle get a cert of the RFD and then waht?
Do you apply for a stalkers permit or do you get your firearm first?
    Thanks

you only need rifle serial number, calibre and bullet grain weight for permit from NPWS

When you have permit you can apply for rifle licence, some apply at same time as stalking permit stating on application for rifle that a stalking permit has been applied for.

The problem is what to put down on the license application form as "Resason to own". If you can convince your Supper that a 308 etc. is required for vermin then that's OK.
But we all know that is a non goer.

So now you have to have deer shooting as your good reason to own so for that you need either farmer permissions to shoot over their land and get it all in writing with the farmers folio number or get in with a Coillte lett and all that is involved with that.

Then you can apply for the deer hunting permit and your rifle license.

Is there a charge fpr the licence or do you just pay the firearms licence?
Is there any point in applying now seeing as the season is nearly over?

NPWS permit is FOC, and yes every point.

You will have Rifle over the summer so you can get some range practice in and be ready for the 1st of September!

    In a word "No" :D

Prior ownership is proof of competence
