Okay so I recently just bought a brand new Acer Aspire. Everythings working fine, however when i went to play two games on it (both which I had just bought today) neither would run. I have rechecked all the specs and according to me, the laptop is well capable of running it ? so why isnt it ?

I asked one of my friends if hew new anything and he said it probably had something to do with my OS, as the games on go up to windows XP on it. Does anybody know if this could be true ? If so is there anyways around it without changing my whole OS ? And once again if I want to change my whole OS, is it easy ?

Friendly warning: If you are going to ask on the internet if you have a problem with your OS, it might be a good idea to tell us what OS you are using. Preferably include what version, any service packs and what hardware you are using.

Also include what games you are trying to play, their versions, and any strange or uncommon software and or hardware attached to the system.

Ermm well at the moment I am running windows 7. Sorry thought I had mentioned it in the above. Not really sure about what hardware your talking about. Not really sure how to check which version it is, but I assume its the latest as I regularly upgrade it.

The two games I am trying to run Include Command and Conquer Generals, C&C Zero Hour and Fable 1. They all need 4 disks to instal, but I dont think theres anything unique about either of there softwart.

How about right clicking on the launcher for the game, go to properties and got to the compatibility tab. Select "Run this program in compatibility mode", select Windows XP.

Try and launch the game as normal after you ok the above.

    Best of luck

I am thinking of trying to Dual Boot both XP and W7 onto the same laptop, but I am a bit hesitant as Ive never tried anything like this before and this laptop is literally brand new.

Does anybody have any recommendations or past experience with Dual Booting OSs ?

Can you describe excactly what you've tried and what happens when these games don't run?

If you Google each game & Windows 7, for example Google 'Fable 1 Windows 7' (without the quotation marks), you'll see that there are a lot of discussions like this for each game and the solutions for each game are not all the same. Some peopel have had success, others haven't.

okay i think I may have solved the C&C one cheers. For Fable I am hearing mixed review. Its seem that it will run grand on the 32b W7 version but it has some trouble on the 64b :'(

I dont understand this though... microsoft claim to be taking a step forward in releasing new OS systems but all that ends up happening is making older programmes useless

Yes sometimes that happens. XP is still the safest platform for a lot of games and is also still by far the most used OS. Gamers have grappled with this since Vista appeared. It's not all doom and gloom though and as you've seen, games can usually be made to work somehow on Vista and Windows 7 but it's not always easy and performance can suffer compared to running the same game on XP.
