    Just read this.

Excessive shyness, embarrassment, self consciousness and timidity, social-phobia and lack of self-confidence are also components of erethism, which is a symptom complex that appears in cases of mercury poisoning[2][3]. Mercury poisoning was common among hat makers in England in the 18th and 19th centuries, who used mercury to stabilize wool into felt fabric.

    Is it true?
What exactly is shyness and why are people shy. In biology its described as "tends to avoid human beings", but that's not true is it.

Considering the article's medical case studies only refer to anecdotal reference to 18th and 19th century hat makers, I extremely doubt it.

I've heard this before in relation to autism and Asperger Syndrome, that the symptoms of mercury poisoning are apparently similar. How true or not I don't know, but there was even a website at one stage suggesting chelation therapy as a "cure" for autism.

Great, now I'm in the middle of reading the wiki entry on The Mad Hatter, the guy who was apparently the inspiration for The Mad Hatter, another guy who looks like the guy who was apparently the inspiration for The Mad Hatter, and all of this from something to do with mercury poisoning.

I hate you sometimes, Wikipedia. Why must you be so interesting?

Also, the words "mad" and "hatter" have just lost all meaning. :(

So are all of peoples emotions affected by chemicals?
Isn't depression a chemical imbalance in the brains?

All emotions originate from a physical characteristic, there is no other source that they come from. They all don't have to be related to a chemical imbalance in the brain but they do have a biological origin. There probably is a large influence from the environment that you live in and the environment that your parents lived in in addition to genetics.

    I used to be shy...

Thought nearly everyone else was better than me in some way and anyone that imo was not just didnt matter

Then, I became less and less shy as I realised that

These people aren't any better than me.....

ffs some of them cant even spell properly most of the time.

I think the biological term is in reference to other species
