Worried About Getting Girl Pregnant

I had sex for the first time without a condom last week. I've been out of my mind with worry since.
The girl told me she's using a Mirena coil for a couple of years and so can't get pregnant. I've been reading about them since and although they seem reliable I'm worried that it may have slipped or something.
Am I being realistic here, or is it best to forget it?

I've definitely learned my lesson, and will get tested for STDs as well to be on the safe side.

It's just hard to relax with this worry, and I can't face another month or so of it.

I don't know the mechanics of a Mirena coil but is it not possible that the girl was lying about using contraception? I think that should be your main concern.

But really, don't worry. There's nothing you can do about it either way unless you're planning on setting up a college fund for worried_guy_999_Junior.

I believe her when she said she was using one, I have no doubts about that as she had no reason to lie

OP, while it is difficult to comment accurately here based on the info you have provided, (e.g. how do you know this girl? is she your girlfriend? are you in an exclusive relationship etc..)[seems like you are not in a relationship] - really your main concern is your sexual health and why you would risk it by having unprotected sex.

The girl said she was using contraceptives, and while you can't always take people on their word of course, for the most part people don't lie about those things, in a one to one situation. Could she have lied? yes, but probably unlikely.

But with STIs she quite simply might not know she has one (or more) and may have no symptoms. But no symptoms doesn't mean that an STI cannot be passed on to a person's sexual partner.

It would probably be a good idea to get tested at the appropriate times and separately forget about the pregnancy issue. she was telling the truth (or not) and it cannot be undone now.

The threads from the mirena IUS come out of the cervix and so can be checked for by the womean who has it fitted and anyone else who cares to check it.

If is on par stastically with having your tubes tied if you are a woman.
With perfect use it protects against pregnancy 99.8% and only has to be replaced every 5 years.

So it us one of the best contraceptives out there for women, but if your not comfortable and you want to be sure then talk about using condoms to be sure.

    Hey OP,

I've seen everything from ruthless cows to the nicest girls imaginable trap guys by getting pregnant. Saying that I've seen guys get girls pregnant on purpose too so it goes both ways. It's not PC but it happens, some people do this. The only way you can have your fertility in your power is to use condoms ALWAYS!!! The girl holds all the cards if she gets pregnant in this country so be in charge of your destiny by being in charge of your fertility. If you're ever tempted to go without condoms again just remember the panic you're feeling right now and it'll soon have you being sensible. I'm sure you're grand though you guys would need to be insanely unlucky for her to be pregnant.

    Best of luck.

Thanks for the comments again. Makes me feel a little less worried.

I'm not in a relationship with her, was just the classic one night stand.

I think I'll forget about it now, and get myself tested as soon as possible in the New Year for STDs.
I would feel so unlucky if it turned out she was pregnant. I guess I'm just not used to taking these kind of chances.
Every one I know has done this at some stage, and seem to have gotten away with it, I just hope I've similar luck.

Wait for 12 weeks before you get a full panel of STI test, unless you get any symptoms in the mean time
