Just a quick question that a fellow boardsie may be able to answer before I call the NCT centre.

My '99 Fiesta failed its NCT last March (March 2010) due to wear on the break pads. We got them replaced and it passed. The next NCT is due in March 2011. I thought NCT certs last for two years, but maybe they only issue a one year cert if the car fails. Is that correct?

as far as I recall, one year NCTs come in in june 2011.However at present the NCT is two years from the date of first registration which would make you last one (on a 1999 car)due in 2009 and your next in 2011 (and annually thereafter.

As above, maybe your 2010 NCT was 1 year overdue?

They changed the nct last year to be yearly on cars that are 10 years or older.

01 cars will start to caught on this in 2011.

Bit of a pain in the stones.

Nope, the NCT cert is from the date when the car was first registered over a period of every two years. It doesn't take into account what specific date the car was tested, only the two year interval in which the car is due.

I got a 2 year NCT cert on a 12 year old car in Feb 2010

The link you posted contradicts this statement...

chers for the replies folks. looks like annual tests for me now anyway per that link above

    12. Annual testing of vehicles over 10 years old
    · At present two thirds of cars aged 10 years and older presented for a test do not pass first time. These older vehicles are more likely to be involved in a collision. Almost half (47%) of collisions that occurred in 2007 involved vehicles that were 9 years old or more. From 1 June 2011 annual testing of cars over 10 years old will commence. Cars over 10 years old will be issued an annual certificate after this date.

As per your own post, if you get a cert in March 2011 it will be valid for 2 years
