Galway commuter services

Can anyone provide an update on the latest position with respect to this proposed railway station located between Athenry and Galway. I have tried to find the latest information online but cannot find any recent updates from local press, IE or Transport 21. I wondered if it had been subject to Government cuts or if not has their been any actual building on site, when is it planned to open?

As the single track section between Galway and Athenry acts as a severe capacity consraint (which will be exacerbated if commuter services to Tuam commence in the next couple of years) I also wondered if the proposed layout will include a passing loop, therefore at least releasing some capacity for future services? I take it full double tracking of this section, whilst needed, is off the agenda at the minute?

Lastly is the redevelopment of Galway station still going ahead?

    thanks!

Latest I heard is that CIE quoted an utterly ludicrous €150 million for dual-tracking from Athenry.

Although nothing has been announced officially, due to the moneys situation, I reckon everything is canned. No dual tracking, no redevelopment, forget it all.

You are probably referring to Oranmore. It was planned to be just a single platform (no loop or anything) and a car park.

I saw somewhere that Irish Rail had a deal with Galway County Council whereby IR would build the station and GCC would build the car park and road.

    I've not seen anything further.
