Ever since the thaw we have had water problems at home. While we do have mains supply coming into the kitchen sink only, there is no water anywhere else in the house. The pressure is low in the mains supply and so the feed into the attic tank is very very slow. The washing machine and the dishwasher have no water coming into them either even though I presume they are connected to the mains. The major problem for me though is that the tank in the attic is just not filling. When I look into it, I can see the water exiting one of the pipe exits at the bottom of the tank and so the water level in the tank never rises above this.

Anytime we use the toilet we fill the cistern immediately with a bucket of water. We have no taps running. I can hear the water gurgling through the pipes almost like it is flowing in waves.

There are no signs of leaks anywhere. I have run my hand along every wall in the house and inside wardrobes and everywhere I can think of but they are all dry. I cannot for the life of me figure out what is the problem. Can anybody advise me? Would there be loads of airlocks in the system? Where is that water in the attic tank going to? Please help as I'm quite dirty and smelly!!

Don't bank on the dishwasher being mains fed, Its not always. You'll need to have a look at the pipes to see where the water is being supplied to.

If the tank keeps draining, there could be some pipes just filling if they were ran dry earlier, but the other side of that is there could be a leak somewhere that isn't obvious at the minute.

If you have low pressure in the mains then the chances are there isn't enough pressure to get water up to the tank. is there water filling the tank via the ballcock?

The water from the ballcock is only a trickle at the moment. Could it be airlocks I'm hearing from the pipes? And also the bottom of the back of the house looks wet but is dry to touch. I'm presuming that is from the snow that was piled up against it. I could hardly have a leak that is manifesting itself on the outer wall but not inside the house, could i?

There is a good chance as "Fingers" pointed that the mains pressure is not strong enough to fill the main tank yet. There may be air locks etc but you wont know till the attic tank starts to fill. The chances of getting an air lock on the mains pipe are fairly slim. When the pressure returns to normal and your attic tank starts to fill is when you will more than likely discover air locks.
