    hi everyone,

just realised today my windscreen wipers are broken, when i put them on they move but stop mid way and they don't rest back in the place they are supposed to if you get what i mean?!

i think the snow and ice may have damaged them, its an opel corsa 1l 2003 if thats any help. any ideas on how i can fix them?

    thanks very much.

Do they just stop half way then?

And what happens if you put them back in their correct position?

I had a similar problem with the wipers on my van. The problem started a couple of weeks before they eventually only worked on the fastest setting. I was on here looking for help too. I took off the motor, opened it up and saw that the bushings were worn and one had came out of its runner or housing, it was tricky to put back in but not a very difficult job to do really, patience helps. Maybe you could start looking for the problem from the top and work your way down to the wiper motor; check the arm is working, check fuses and wire connections. I'm just waiting for the day my wipers go again, because the bushings on the motors seem to have a shelf life! Best of luck with it.

hi, they swing forward and back then just stop in random places on the window and i have to time turning them off to get them back down, but they dont go back down fully into the correct position that they should be in..there constantly an inch or two up because i cant stop them from swinging, so yes when i turn them on they swing up and down then stop mid way so i have to turn them off and on to try re allign them. Sorry im terrible at describing.

I'd a similiar problem with my car, the wipers literally stopped working halfway across the screen, but after putting them in the correct off position they stopped working, was a fault in the motor that had to be repaired.

Partner81 gives you a good idea of what to start checking.

It's most likely a problem with the linkage reset position which has been moved due to ice pressure. It may be possible that the linkage has wornin which case it will have to be replaced but the first thing to try is opening up the wiper mechanism and resetting the linkage rest position.

Would that cause the wipers to stop mid way through their cycle? and when you say the wiper mechanism is that the motor or the arm at the steering wheel??

I believe the home position for the wipers is controlled from within the wiper motor. Stopping in random positions is a problem with this set position. Same problem on a Tigra here. 'Waiting to get a second hand motor in to investigate the problem with the broken one.

i changed one in an astra before. cost about 30 euro from a scrappy, and was handy enough to do myself.

New ones can be had in England for around £65 with maybe another £15 in postage. From Opel here around €180 was mentioned.
