Come out if you feel that you are ready to come out. Don't feel that you have to come out because of what others are saying.

(also, just a reminder that the LGBT forum also allows anonymous posting)

Only come out because you are ready, not for anyone else. Who is threatening you and how old are you btw?

If you're still in school, you might want to wait (depending on your circumstances).

If you're out of school, I'd say go for it, it's generally a great weight of your shoulders.

Start with a close friend or two (who you don't think will react badly), tell them you want to talk about something, and just tell them. More casual friends you can just slip it in (or word will spread).

For family, you may want to start with a sibling if you are close to one (and they can be trusted not to blab), or go straight to your parents. Parents do take some time to adjust though, be warned - mine are liberal professor types, and it still took them a few years of not talking much about it before they adjusted and were asking about boyfriends, etc.

    Hey OP,

If someone is threatening you go to the gaurds, it's illegal to threaten or blackmail in this country. With regards to coming out, it's rarely as bad as you think it will be, usually it's a bit of a shock to the immediate family but they get over it quickly and to be honest most other won't give a toss anyway. Get some advise and support on the LGBT forum, it's under the soc heading.

    Best of luck.
