MSN Virus

    Hi All,
I received an email from someone saying

    "Hi There,
I have been receiving emails from your account the last few days,
you more than likely have a msn virus, the following is a link to a free msn cleaner, run it and check your system is ok."

The person then went on to give a link to download software from softpedia.com called MSN Virus Cleaner. The sender also had about 40 recipients in his distribution list. I emailed him back to get a copy of the mail I suppousedly sent but he had deleted it.

I am currently running AVG Internet Security 2011. I have received emails from friends of mine in the last few days as well that would just give a link to a website which I of course did not follow, and have deleted them and let them know I am getting them. I honestly do not think I am infected but:

    a:
Should I download the proposed software just in case or b: Should AVG catch any such virus that I might have?

I am very cautious as a rule about downloading software and normally use my linux computer for all my downloads.
    Any help greatly appreciated,

Jesus, do NOT download anything you are not expecting.

The 40 people in the DL should have been a clue, do you really think 40 people were sending this guy spam emails?

Also, NEVER EVER reply to the emails.... EVER

Delete the mails, and don't click on links unless your expecting it from someone

You do know that words typed in caps are considered to be shouting?
This guy has had enough cop on to ask for help here. At least other people are now aware of this.

I am not a complete lameo. I did not download anything or follow any of the links as stated. And yes the 40 odd people in the distribution list was a hint and I asked the guy if they were all sending him malicious email but he failed to respond to this.

But I do thank you for your help.
