Just thought this was worth a mention, January wheat futures prices went over £200 a ton for the first time today, mainly it seems because of high exports from the UK of this years crop pre Xmas and the fact that new ethanol factories over there have been coming on stream over the last couple of years reducing the exportable surplus that they had.

I'm a tillage farmer so it's good news all the way for me, but in the long term it should be good news for all our cattle and sheep farmers as our ability to produce competitively from grass must be to our advantage.

My brother was harvesting grain in OZ last year. He keeps in contact with fellows he worked with. They told him the grain is a disaster this year not getting rain to grow it first then getting two much rain to be able to cut it now. 1000's of acres wiped out.

Provided we don't get a disastrous Spring where growth starts in May.
