Maxim causes delay in Pro Tools 8HD and M powered?

This has been annoying me for a while. The Maxim plugin causes a delay both in HD and M Powered, Intel Macs. In HD the delay comp does not work. There's an epic thread on the DUC which seems to be more about a MIDI and PPC issue? For the moment my workaround is to use Massey L2007 instead, but I don't have that on the HD rig.

    I know I'm missing something...

The thread on the DUC is about midi and ADC and affects ALL PT systems using version 8, it has been fixed in 9. I has nothing to do with Maxim. Maxim was used to demonstrate the issue as it has a very hi latency count, thats all.

Have you trashed prefs etc in your HD rig? What version of PT and system are you using? Is it the latest version of the plugin?

    EDIT
I just inserted it on a track and the ADC worked fine

OK, it only causes a delay in HD if you load an LE session and don't turn on delay compensation. However, it does cause a delay in LE even with high buffer settings. Weird!

thats normal behaviour for LE AS there is zero delay compensation and the latency is not defeated with larger buffer sizes, this was spoken of a few years back and turned out to be mis-information. if you have a plugin that produces 512 samples of latency then you're getting 512 samples no matter what your buffer settings as its added onto your buffer.

OK, but this one is so latent it causes flamming. Have you experienced this?

you need to compensate all other tracks with a delay matching that which maxim induces.

Now that I think back, the L2 used to do it also. But the Massey L2007 doesn't. IME very few plugins cause a delay in LE.

quite a few of the high end ones do. especially anything DSP or anything that uses a lot of upsampling. UAD adds 1024 samples. liquid mix adds nearly 5000.

Ah. I only use the "high end" ones in HD. :D

anyway protools 9 solves the problem as ADC is now standard :)

Maxim does have a very high delay comparable to other plugs.

Ya, but we only updated to 8 at the start of the summer :(
