I just clicked onto a very standard free porn site (I rarely do this...just a bit bored and horny. I´m female) and an image of an ad for another porn site of a man giving a child oral sex popped up at the side of the screen. I clicked off the site immediately but the image is burned in my mind and I´m very upset. I just can´t believe this. It´s f-ing disgusting and wrong and why the hell does it appear so easily on site that is so easily accessible to anyone?? I´m in tears here. How do I get this out of my mind?

Report the matter to the Gardai, link etc. This stuff is now an international crime and can only be stopped when the culprits are tracked down.

Maybe reporting the image would help put your mind at rest? Organisations like the Internet Watch Foundation take complaints about images of child pornography and websites which host them. Try not to beat yourself up too much, it's not as if you went searching for that kind of content.

    Report it to hotline.ie

    Hi Op
You should stick to some of the more reputable porn sites.. I'm not going to list them here :D but some of them they end with "tube.com"

I don't think you should report the image to the gardai, not unless you want your computer seized and to make a lot of trouble for yourself for what is basically a non-event.

Hopefully the picture itself was just doctored using photoshop so what you thought you saw didn't actually happen in real life.

Wow. What an absolutely disgusting piece of "advice".

OP, report it as others have said. People ignoring it sure as shít isn't going to help put a stop to this evil.

In fairness, as horrible and disgusting child porn is, as angry it makes us, and as much as it seems awful to not do anything about it, it's naive to think that reporting this will do anything.

Personally, I'd be a little doubtful that this was actually child porn. It'd be very unlikely that child porn would slip through the net and that an ad for it pop up on any regular porn site. Add to this the fact that the OP doesn't look at porn often, and I would reckon it was legal porn but with actors who looked young (there's a lot of stuff out there that seems very questionable at a glance, but it turns out that the actors are of age, just very young looking).

But anyway, even if it was genuinely child porn, if it's so visible, you can be guaranteed that it will be noticed and will be taken down. Policing the regular internet is pretty easy and is done. The big issue to do with it these days is heavily encrypted and anonymized, underground "darknets", stuff no one will randomly come across on the regular internet. If you found out something about one of these, then yes, reporting it would be absolutely the thing to do, but reporting something so blatantly visible is futile, and you could very well incur hassle in terms of PCs being taken and analysed etc.

i myself found that even if you deviate slightly off the most popular porn sites, you will regularly encounter these images. when i first came across it i reported it on some hotline. but truth be told, these images are widely available and i'm sure the authorities are well aware of these images being so easily accessible. i'm not an IT expert but i get the feeling that the powers that be are certainly not as powerful as people are led to believe in dealing with these images. from what i've read, even if these images or sites are taken down, they can be regenerated instantly.

I think you need to join the real world, Chinafoot.

The op's computer could be seized. She would be waiting around for hours to speak with some one. Her details would be taken by the garda. She may feel like she is being treated like a criminal. She may even be arrested for downloading or possessing child pornography.

Or the garda in charge might (quite rightly) say there is nothing that can be done in this instance. There's no evidence what the op saw was child pornography.

The best thing to do is to report it to hotline.ie and allow them to determine what, if any action needs to be taken to have the material removed. I have reported things on several occasions, and will continue to do so, if I see them. That's the responsible thing to do and everyone has a duty to act in this way.

Oh give me a break. I've seen some shíte from you on this site but this just sums you up really. Sickening.

If the "real world" where you live is one of doing your absolute best to avoid any sort of possible inconvenience for yourself at the expense of all others, then I'm quite happy to stay where I am thanks.

Oh and I'll happily accept a ban for this :)

Don't be ridiculous. She didn't manufacture or download this image, she accidentally stumbled on it and is obviously quite upset by it. That's like saying that someone who accidentally witnessed a murder shouldn't report it because they may be held responsible in some way.

Immediately report it to hotline.ie with as much information as you can.
    They exist for these reasons.
