    Hi,
Is there an app out there that would automatically convert text messages to speech when (for example) bluetooth is enabled, and would also allow me compose a text using speech.

I only have the stock text message app (on HTC Desire) and it does not allow me do anything with speech.

    Thanks

Thanks for the tip. I think my issue is that the bluetooth kit in my car does not support the A2DP protocol which Vlingo (and others) require. I would need an app that utilizes the handfree side of things rather than requiring A2DP but I don't know if that is even possible.

Been playing around with vlingo with my mono headset(non a2dp) and its working pretty good, the only problem is it needs a live internet connection for voice search.

    Might be worth trying..

Don't know what my issue was so. Bluetooth in car would not pick up sms translation. Vlingo site referred to need for a2xp so put it down to that. Does it really need an internet connection? Not ideal.

Not ideal at all, Google voice is the same needing a web connection. Although I'm not sure vlingo needs to be connected to read messages but does for the voice search.

You'really right about Vlingo only reading messages over a2dp though, it uses the phones loudspeaker if you're using a mono headset.
