as far as i can find......and ive just downloaded $6 thousand worth of apps .........there are only apps that give free calls/texts within us/canada......and a few for india etc.......none for ireland........though there are some that et you send free texts and free calls to people that aso have the app.......though most require wi fi connection so thats pretty useless as you can text free online anyway............

just pay the 20 quid a month to meteor and get free texts

P.S.........you,ll need to say whether you,e looking for an iphone or android app

If you want to text someone with an iphone you can use the free app Ping to Chat. It's an instant message thing that's like texting and it's free to use.

If you have an O2 phone , or even an O2 sim you don't use much, you can get 200 free online texts that can be sent within Ireland or internationally a month. The app Eirtext lets you send them very easily. There's a free version or a paid for pro version that's cheaps.

Whatsapp is pretty good. I costs 79c but it well worth it. The only snag is that the person ur contacting needs to have it too, but it works on iPhone, blackberry, most decent nokias, and I believe they're working on an android version.

Best thing is that it let's u send mms for free too. For that you'd need to have at least 3G coverage, but for simple texts it works fine over GPRS.

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but Eirtext Pro allows you to access your free service provider webtext from anywhere.

Used it last year from a few different European countries & worked fine.

You do need a WiFi connection tho....

EirText Pro supports international texting on O2 and Vodafone.
