    Hey lads,

Just a wee problem with a windows update I could use some advice on.

Windows has downloaded the latest update, after a restart it's going no further than stage 3. It stays at 0% and goes no further.

Any ideas what might be causing this? Or is there a way to stop the update in safe mode?

    Any ideas lads?

I had to leave a pc on all night once to get the update loaded.

Lads, just tried to install windows, but was unsuccessful because it would mean I would have to format my hard drive which I cannt afford to do.

Does anyone know of any way to disable the windows update feature from the command prompt?

    Why not?

If you can't afford to lose the information on the drive then you should back it up to an external drive, or Disc. What would you do if your HDD suddenly died?

It's frankly silly not to have that contingency, or be in a position to format your hard drive to perform a clean installation. You can get storage space by the Terabyte these days and DVDs are cheap if you invested in the DVD burner; a cheap and effective way to safeguard family photos and obscene music collections.

I dont know of a way to halt the update from the Comm Prompt, no.
