Golf oil and filter

    want to change the oil and oil filter in my 08 GTI. Anyone have recommendations for brand of oil and will halfords have an off the shelf filter?

    Correct oil type will be stated in the owners manual, any oil that meets the correct spec will be fine.
    I'd go for a genuine vw filter, they are usually no more expensive than a motor factors one.

    Needs VW504/507 spec oil. Typically something like castrol edge 5w30 or shell helix ultra 5-30. You'll get the castrol edge in Halfords.

    All the big oil companies do VAG 504/507 5W30 oils now. Filter is cheap at a dealer.

    For god sake don't get your filter in Halfords, go to VW and spend an extra 2 quid and get a genuine quality one.

    While this is true, if your not near a dealers then a MANN or MAHLE will do the finest, they are OEM for most german cars anyway.

    I also would not buy halfords for some reason.

    I only use MAHLE on my BMW and even the box is identical apart from the BMW branding.

    5l of genuine vw oil for my yoke is cheaper of a dealer in the south than 5l from halfords.. unless you have trade discount with halford they will work out as expencive as getting a vw filter and vw oil.. if ya can get it in the north it will be even cheaper
