Clove oil or chewing on whole cloves give a bit of temporary relief.

put a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel on her face after taking pain killers .. works wonders n makes the tablets work quicker

Did the doctor offer her any antibiotics ? It would seem that this could help with the tooth and her sickness.

Sounds silly, but chewing gum, massages the tooth, I was getting toothaches so bad a couple of months back i was passing out from the pain and sweating uncontrollably, chewing really did help though.

Depends whats causing it. Might sinus. In which case a sinus tablet might help, or steaming. Otherwise for a regular toothache, rub Sensodyne toothpaste into it.

if you did manage to find one could you pm me and let me know if possible ?
Im a bit surprised actually I know everyone needs a holiday but I would have expected some sort of skeleton cover as its the 29th Dec and not the 25th!

Absolutely don't do this. If your girlfriend has an abcess, heat can cause the abcess to point, which will increase the pain and swelling. Plus, I think what your girlfriend has is a hyperaemic pulp which is a swollen pulp inside the tooth. Imagine, however, that because the tooth is solid, the swelling has nowhere to go. That is why she is getting relief from ice cubes. This is a difficult condition to treat. Dentist ASAP. The pain will eventually disappear on its own, but the infection will remain.

i ve been to the doctor and dentist with an abcess and this is the only thing that helped and they both recommended it.. cold made it ten times worse.
OP hows your gf.. is the pain any better?

    Well, I'm a dentist, and they're wrong.

No heat on an abscess it increases blood-flow to the abscess and give a nice hot environment for the bacteria to multiply. More blood into an already swollen area makes it worse. I am a dentist and my wife is a doctor and we both agree.

    Nurofen Plus.
This medication is now restricted but if you explain the situation to your chemist they will let you have some.
I had a hidden abscess a couple of years ago and was in extreme pain. Nurofen Plus was the only relief until the tooth was removed.
