Just to add to what was said:
Bill Hughes went on to be a producer and, indeed, a judge for You're A Star amongst other things. He is currently on once a week on 4FM with "Music from the Shows" - one of the few specialist shows not to be dropped.

Philip Boucher Hayes is a current affairs presenter on RTE Radio One.

John Kelly went first to Radio One and then to Lyric FM.

Phil Cawley is on weekends on Today FM and Donal Dineen is still on weekdays on Today FM but starting after midnight. He is the only weekday presenter from the original lineup that is still on weekdays.

Ann Marie Hourihan left within the year.
Eamon Dunphy got the morning breakfast show on Newstalk for a while. Then, he had a weekend slot on Radio One. Now he is back with Newstalk on Sunday mornings. The Last Word is still in the schedule but with Matt Cooper and an extra half-hour for each night.

Emily O'Reilly is an Ombudsman. Gavin Duffy most famously was on Dragon's Den.

Declan Meehan is the only presenter from the original weekend lineup of Radio Ireland left - he is now on every Sunday morning.

Sam Smyth has been involved with the Sunday Supplement since the very beginning but initially he was a panel member and John Ryan was the presenter. After about a year, Sam took over the role of presenter. This year the program became the Sam Smyth Show and gained an extra half-hour.

Another weekend presenter initially was Paul Power. He was to get the early early weekday slot and then briefly the breakfast slot while they waited for the official launch of Ian Dempsey. Paul Power is now with KFM.

Two journalists used to host a humorous look at the news every Saturday - Murray and Mackey, i.e. Paddy Murray and Liam Mackey.

Saturday night Sunday morning 1am -> 5am Clubmix with Mark Kavanagh was one of the best dance music shows ever to grace Irish airwaves. Really caught the moment of the late 90's when the club scene was taking off.
It got packed in shortly before the station rebranded in early '98 (?) I don't think the station's new owners wanted anythign to do with club/dance music...
This at a time when 2FM had Mickey Mac (or was it Simon Young?) doing their saturday night dance show

If memory serves me right, Mark Kavanagh's show was gone by the autumn of 1997. The first few hours of his slot was replaced by "Between The Sheets" - a love songs program - presented by Jon Troy!

Incidentally, Mark's former partner in crime in the dance scene, Tim Hannigan, has been with 2FM for a number of years now as Mr. Spring.

Another staple diet of the weekend schedule on Radio Ireland from the start was "The Celtic Reel" presented by Ita Ryan. Her show was dropped in early January 1998 just before the name change.

I just remembered another few from its beginnings. Bob Gallico presented a classical music show on Sunday mornings. I'm pretty sure that that was gone before the change to Today FM. However, "The River of Soul", presented by Karl Tsigdinos, lasted a bit longer. Initially, it was on Sunday morings at 10:00 just before "The Sunday Supplement". It was moved around a few times and durations during its time, but always some time on a Sunday. It eventually ended up on Sunday evenings. The River of Soul (and Karl) was finally dropped during 2003 and effectively replaced with the alternative rock show "The Last Splash" presented by Alison Curtis.

Incase you were wondering what the line up was when the station became today fm in january 1998 it was this, 7am mark byrne, 10am tim kelly, 1pm The way it is, 1.30 phil cawley, 5pm The last word with Dunphy, 7pm john kelly, 9pm Donal dineen. Mark byrne replaced the talk breakfast show in the final days of the radio ireland name and was there until about july 1998, as the other poster said paul power took over the slot until dempesy started later in the year. Poor tim kelly has often been shafted by today fm, he was replaced by mark cagney in the mid morning slot after 4 or 5 months but mark cagney left the station after a few months to go to tv3 so tim kelly was put back on the slot again only to be shafted again to make room for ray darcy in september 2000.

Some great memories here guys! I remember 98 was hit fairly hard when both Mark Byrne and Tim Kelly left around the same time to go to Today.
