Laptop and Mixer

    Hey guys,

So I've been using Traktor Pro for quite a while now, have it mapped to a midi keyboard which isn't exactly the best...

I've been looking at controllers and the VCI 100 seems to be the best idea, only concern is trying to set it up in a club during somebody elses set and space considerations, is it possible to route each deck to a separate port on an external soundcard and then through to a club mixer (eg DJM 700) and play as normal, albeit using the laptop trackpad to select and trigger tracks?

Will this work with most mixers or are there any problems I should be aware of?

Basically I just want the laptop to take the place of CDJs and use the club mixer just for faders, x fader and EQs and headphones, and just use the laptop to trigger and sync tracks through Traktor.

Its possible, not sure that I would though. All beatmatching and looping would have to be done with a mouse or keyboard shortcuts. And you cant always rely on the sync button.

Also, if the club's mixer is shoddy or damaged, you're bolloxed. When using midi you can avoid bad channels and once the mixer is set the first time you don't necessarily need to touch it again.

TBH, if you do this, you'll look like you're checking your email the whole night:p Get a MIDI controller. Setting up is a minute or two, get the guy ahead to mix in a 6min+ track and you're good to go.

Have a look at the x1 kontroller for traktor i got one and love it it just controllls the effects, transport and song browser thingy:p so you could just plug that into your laptop and use the clubs mixer.

Thanks a mill for the replies guys, I don't suppose anyone has a 'how to' for connecting your average DJM to laptop?

How much would you want for the VCI?

Sounds like you need a Kontrol X1 and an Audio 2 DJ.

Get a 2 channel soundcard, like an Audio 2 DJ. Connect it. Get two TRS to phono cables. Plug them into 2 channels on a mixer, and in Traktor select deck A to go to output A, and deck B to go to output B. Done. Ignore the EQs and faders on Traktor, and just use the hardware ones.

Then get a Kontrol X1 to control play/sync/loops/effects/browser etc.

eh probably about 350, sounds like the x1 + audio2dj would be a cheaper option tho

I would love the VCI as it'd be great for home use but I won't have the cash for a few weeks. If I decide to go that route I'll PM you on the off chance you still have it, tho you shouldn't have any trouble selling a VCI!
