A friend of mine predicted the last spell of bad weather, he is now saying there is going to be another spell in 2 weeks time. Worse than what we had.

Anyone else think the storm of the centuary is coming?

Is that the lad who sticks his wanger in a pile of dog excrement and then spins around and predicts the weather based on where the sh*t lands?

He knows what he's talking about alright.

They didn't exactly do a great job on the last batch of snow. We were told there would be no more and then all of a sudden a severe weather warning is in effect.

Credit where it's due though, they got the thaw date right

99% of the time Ol' Toothless Jimmy beside the fire doesn't even know he's indoors so keeps saying "tonight will be toasty with refreshing showers of Guinness."

I don't trust him at all.

Met Eireann don't predict weather, they just tell you what the current weather is.
Looking out your window is about as effective.

Well considering January is normally a colder month than December there's a chance there probably will be a cold or colder spell at some stage during the month.

Still no snow here in the Mid-West. Mind you, if you were to listen to the news, etc, you'd swear there wasn't anyplace in the country that wasn't at least 8 inches under!

Please enlightening me as to why. Storm, very possible as the jet runs south, under cutting a cold block tighting the pressure graidiant.

This thread should be moved into the weather section.:)

Well normally I don't agree with this off the cuff predictions, but he did tell me on the 4th of dec we were in for a bad weather event at Christmas, and he was right. Basically he says if the states gets it then we should brace ourselves. I suppose come 20th of Jan you can all reply to this thread saying it was really a load of bollox.

Anyway he was right about the dec prediction.

I predict a summer of a few warm days and lots of rain. A huge storm will hit in 2018. Come back to me in eight years and find out if I am indeed correct.

Ah well this guys gets his predictions from the movements of animals and birds around his Bluestack Mountains beat in Donegal.

Does your friend use such peer-reviewable methods?
Tea leaves perhaps? A storm from a tea-cup one might say

historically speaking we've been overdue some very severe winters for quite a few years now and there's quite a few people who think that what we've had this year (inc. last jan/feb) is just the start of it and that there is more and worse to come.

of course only time will tell, but nobody really knows with much accuracy what the weather is going to be like more than a few days ahead and even the mighty MT has been known to get it wrong from time to time as he is only using his expertise to interpret what the various weather models are outputting and they aren't always accurate by any means.

Snow will be back at approximately the 16th of January which means if a light dusting of snow occurs any time between the 10th and 22nd you can say "told ya so". Im sceptical of the postie from Donegal but at least his methods are up for scrutiny and evaluation. The extremely cold winter had been predicted from many sources including boards.ie. What are your friend's methods?
