Anyone know if UPC will be getting sky sports hd ?

It seems that the main benefit of hd is for watching sport so UPC hd has a major gap at the moment.

I'm sure UPC would have the Sports HD service on tomorrow if they we're giving the green light by Sky to do so.

Right, so it's not going to happen unless some regulator forces them into it.

I think in the UK the regulator has told them to put the service on Virgin Media, that could mean that UPC could have a decent chance in the future for getting a deal done here.

They say they are in an ongoing battle with Sky to get their HD channels but how far they are getting seems to be anyones guess. Sky know that their HD channels are their trump card over the likes of UPC and Virgin and are not going to give them up without a fight. It could be a while.

And Sky are not regulated in this country.

Well they would be regulated here in the context of competition law.

I dont see why Sky would/should be obliged to offer anyone else their products to be honest. What they resell is their own business.

Yes and no. Sky have a dominant position in coverage of football, rugby, golf so it could be interpreted as anti-competitive if they don't allow others to offer coverage of these sports.

But they do offer coverage. Sky do not place any sports exclusively on their HD channels.

They are hardly going to want to give their biggest competitor SS HD, they would be mad to.. They will want a ridiculous amount of money for it..

Yeah it's quite clever by them and effectively means they have a monopoly in hd.
