    Hi all,

I've a ran a forum search about my query, but I couldn't get a post/thread that could solve my problem.

I've just got a new laptop, which runs windows 7. Much to my disappointment (but not to my surprise) I can't use my Huawei e220 3 datamodem on it. The program has loaded, but it won't recognise that the modem is plugged in. I'm getting the datamodem invalid box each time I launch the program. I've just spent the last few hours trying to solve the problem by running many google searches, but to no avail.

Anybody any idea what could solve my problem? I'll probably be ringing 3 tomorrow (for all the good it will do), but any advice here would be much appreciated.

Three probably won't be able to help you, as that modem is not officially supported on Windows 7. You need a driver from a different modem, which will work. I've used the Vodafone K3520 driver on both 32 and 64-bit Windows 7, and the E220 works with it. The K3520 is just a re-branded E169 Huawei modem.

Do the newer modems that O2/Vodafone use work with Win7? I'm thinking of changing from three, my contract of 12 months ended over a year ago.

EDIT: I've just downloaded that Vodafone driver you've mentioned, and it's allowing me to connect through the Windows connect to window (rather than through the Vodafone program). Is there any chance that I'm connected to Vodafone, rather than 3, and that because of that I'm actually roaming and running up a bill?! Forgive my ignorance, and thanks for your advice!

Try this. Huawei drivers for windows 7, it's for modems that aren't compatible with 7 like the huawei e180 (e180 and a e169g works with it from my tests) http://www.geekofcomedy.com/Site/Editing.html Uninstall the 3 data modem app. Install the driver, then install the 3 app.

The SIM will only connect to it's own network. You cannot "roam" locally across the networks.

    Legend!

    Thanks a million, it works.

Thanks to Jor El too, I've got two ways of making it work now.
