    Hi,

I want to get my wife an iphone in Jan as a gift.
I'm on a contract with Vodafone, and checked with them prior to xmas and they confirmed I can get one on a upgrade.

I then want to "gift" it to her. She's prepay on Vodafone using a nokia currently.

My questions are - will I be able just to give it to her or will thephone need to be unlocked etc?
What about her sim and contacts etc?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Thanks,
    MM:pac:

    Sir,
Phone will be locked in Vodafone , she will be able to use her sim with no problems as long as she stays in vodafone.

Its enough that on her old phone she copies contacts onto sim and then imports them from her sim into iphone.

Re; the sim, her current sim is not the micro sim iphones use? How will i get her a new micro sim bearing in mind she's a pre pay customer?

You can cut the sim with a scissors to make it fit.
Loads of online tutorials but it's pretty sraightforward and con free

MM just dont play with scissors :D

I use a normal sim in my 3gs . But if you want a micro one just contact vodafone tell them your details and ask them to send you a micro one they will with the same number.

Also when you are upgrading just tell them to do above and you will get your iphone with a new micro sim with the same number. When i upgraded to iphone 4 they sent me a micro sim without asking them to do with the same number.

iPhone 4 will need a microsim , go into any vodafone store and ask for one as they are free. The shop will put your wifes number onto the sim for you if you don't want the bother of ringing customer care.
    Microsim will be free.

Just make sure you tell your wife if its a surprise as the normal SIM goes dead pretty much instantly.

I suggest ensuring that all the contacts from the Nokia are copied to the big sim, then trim the sim and put it into the new iPhone and copy the contacts to it. Then you can replace the trimmed sim with a new micro-sim at your convenience.

What Nokia phone is it? Safest bet is to transfer your contacts from the nokia to your pc then when the iphone arrives sync them from pc to iphone (so long as they're formated for windows contacts).

This will only work if the nokia phone supports it.

It's an N95 8g and her contacts have already been placed up on ovi.
Can they be downloaded to the iphonev from there or is there another program you suggest to upload all the no's to now?

    Thks.:)

I've never used ovi before but see if there's anyway to sync the contacts with your windows contacts (which all windows computers should have). Once they're there you can sync them to an iPhone.

set up a gmail exchange account and set it to sync contacts, just set it up again on the iphone and all contacts will be synced again

A MicroSIM, positioned correctly, will work in a normal phone. So transfer the contacts to the phone. Put in the MicroSIM, transfer them back. Simple.

Hi, just looking to confirm something similar before I call into my O2 shop.

The missus is entitled to an upgrade. She has a 3G, I have the 3GS but she doesnt want a new phone. If I use her upgrade to the 4 will O2 give me a micro sim with my number on it, or will this cause problems?
