    Merry Christmas All,

Recently had a computer virus and a repair guy put in a new hard-drive. The old harddrive is also in the computer with all the computer files, including my itunes library.

However, when I select itunes the following error message appears:

    - The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.

Any ideas how to sort this one out?

    Cheers!

Make sure you're running the latest version of iTunes.

If you already are, it's likely your library file is corrupted.

Thanks, can you go into a bit more detail please? Can a corrupted library file be fixed? Don't follow what you mean exactly

I had this problem when I built a pc for someone, for some reason Apple use full paths in the itunes library file ie c:\users\name\my music... Basicly if you change the structure of where the library is placed it wont open, I dont know how he fixed it, the common sense approach of changing the path using find & replace didnt work, told him to ring Apple :P . Could be a simular issiue, easiest thing I would think to do is copy all music into itunes & create a new library

It means there may be a problem with the file causing iTunes not to be able to recognise it or parse it correctly. This is generally not repairable, unless there is a third party utility at I am not aware of that can do it.

If you are not running the latest iTunes (10.1.1) and the library was created with or updated to a version newer than the one you have installed it would be normal that it cannot work with it so that's where I would start.
