hey-can someone help explain my oil heating system as i find it strange
it's a 3-bed semi with oil boiler in shed

-there's a 1/2" copper feed from the small header tank to the top of heating coil on indirect cylinder(i asume this is the feed to system)

-there's a 1" tee into the flow pipe close to boiler (i assume this is the expansion)

yet there's no 1" expansion pipe into top of F/E tank

    why is this:confused: ?thanks

If the 1/2 inch is the only pipe at the exp. tank you have a semi sealed system, the 1 inch tee at the boiler may be the gravity feed to the cylinder.

ya just one 1/2" from the header tank-that's all

i was curious as it looks like i'll be plumbing for a few days at least :)

so how would the expansion work on that system

the pump is on the return close to boiler-so i thought it would be fully pumped system-don't know much though

The system expands thru' the cold feed,
With regard to the heating side the pump may only be on the radiator circuit and gravity on the hot water,

to be fair if you dont know much about plumbing why are you doing it , it can cause serious accidents, people have been killed by people not knowing what they are doing , especially when you are dabbling into sealed/semi sealed systems .

It would be fully pumped. There is no gravity to feed the hot water coil, as the boiler would be below the hw cylinder and would need to be pumped up to it.

picture of branch off flow in boiler

also wondering why the 1/2" feed/ expansion has a valve on it? isn't that a bad idea
