Lads I only have a shotgun at the min but would like to get a .22mag but dont know how much one would set me back so my question is how much would a second hand one with a scope set me back?

    Hey jellybaby, Happy Christmas.
Lots of 2nd hand stuff in the dealers at the mo, down my direction try east coast dog and gun or John Lambert in Camolin, cash is king, they should have lots of decent 2nd hand scoped also if you don't want to go new,

How's that bird of yours, recovering ok?

Forgot to mention, not suitable for moderator , can't get subs in .22 WMR, ammo about €12-€15 per 50 depending on location and type.

I have a Savage 93 bolt action .22 WMR , good for foxes out to about 120 yards, shot placement is key, blast rabbits beyond 200 yards, I have a cheap Hawke scope 3X9X40

Good to hear she's recovering, lots of second hand stuff available at the mo, lots of lads wax on about .204 and .223 for fox , fine if you have the bucks, I shoot on a budget and find the Savage 93 in .22WMR great, bolt actions are probably more accurate than semi's and may well have less wear as you don't just fill the mag and blast away.
we must meet up when this weather blows over and try Willow on my permission outside Gorey, Cheers!!

the .22mag is great for foxes. and then you always have the cheaper ammo for bunnies crows targets and what not.
you will knock a fox on the spot out past 150 yards if you have the aim. (i dont) so i dont take the shots.
you can get a rifle more designed for foxes but its more bucks and ammo is more bucks.
but the .22mag is perfect for it if you scope it at 100 yards and take your time when taking shots.
ive seen a heck of alot of foxes falling victim to a .22 mag and very few of them counting as misses or running very far

I had willow back out for the first time today so yeah lad we'll have to get something sorted and do a bit of ferreting and bolt a few rabbits for her.

    I paid €350 for a Marlin 25mn .22wmr with a Nikko stirling 4 X 32 scope back in 2002, I'll bet you'll get better deals now though.

if its mostly for foxes you'd be better off getting a centerfire rifle, .22hornet, .223 or .204, plenty of bargains to be had at the moment from the few dealers i've been in lately so, just visit a few and see what catches your eye

How accurate would your average 22 magnum be? Anyone with one care to upload some pics?

Have no pics, but my Ruger will shoot sub MOA with Winchester Super-X. The crappest of the crap WMR ammo. (But also the cheapest) :D

I had a remington 597 laminate heavy barrell in wmr and it would shoot 1inch groups at 100 yards consistently

very accurate IF the shooter can be accurate. find it to be a brilliant all round gun.
