This doesnt play DTS, MKV or WMV which is a massive downside

    Yup.
IMO a 1TB disk is useless if the device doesnt support HD content.

It says on the harvey norman link that it is HD though. Would this not mean it would support a ripped file from your HD disc?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,000 ✭✭✭fl4pj4ck

technically speaking - yes. however it only utilizes DivX technology, where most of today's HD stuff is being distributed in MKV (Matroska) containers

if you convert it - then no problem, but remember this particular one will only be good for up to 1080i (interlaced), so it won't display a "proper" 1080p HD movie

These were 110 in easons before christmas - I would expect you to be able to get one cheaper than 99 euro in the sales - (either in easons or elsewhere)

I bought it in HN on Christmas eve for €118. It's a lovely player. I probably will buy another from the refurbished link, for €63, That's an amazing price even refurbished.

Doubt any of them are refurbished to be honest, I'm guessing they are selling off new stock and call it refurbished not to upset the retailers they supply.

Oh yeah, sorry, UPS says 6/01/11.

EDIT: Estimated date is gone now, parcel is in Barking, GB.

Is there any difference between the ScreenPlay Plus HD and the ScreenPlay Pro HD, other than 500gb of storage (and network connection)? I was thinking of getting one to, basically, replace a DVD player, won't be connected to a network. And, I'm not sure if i'm fully understanding how it works, I have a tv with a USB socket that plays video files directly from a hard drive. The other TV, that I want this for, doesn't have a usb port, so I presume this does the same thing through HDMI.

Typical UPS; Two parcels shipped and tracked together all the way to Cork, one arrived yesterday, the other won't until Tuesday....

  • Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 9,075 Mod ✭✭✭✭Aquos76

I got both of mine delivered yesterday also, although for a while it looked like one of the packages was also left back in cork, the driver couldn't find it in the van. He eventually found it and dropped it back to me.

Have you tried out the media player yet??

    Mine is still in Tamworth.

  • Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 9,075 Mod ✭✭✭✭Aquos76

Yeah, I ordered the 500g SCREENPLAY PRO HD and also the 1tb Gigabit Ethernet drive, both are decent, if I had one complaint about each it would be that there is no usb port for connecting to PC for quicker transfer and also the remote control for the media player is pretty awful, its is very slow to react and when it does work it can be over sensitive.

Also I got no instructions with ether device, sure for that money I wouldnt give out to much.

My Screenplay arrived today, it has two USB ports..

Sorry, my mistake, when I said, if I had one complaint about each, I meant the lack of the USB port on the 1tb eternet drive and the remote issue on the screenplay.

I've even managed to get the screenplay working over wireless network using a standard belkin wireless USB adaptor. I'm delighted with both items to be honest

    Oh right.

...my one does have a USB port. :D

Sorry, but which one are you referring to that has the usb port, it is the ethernet Hard disk I an referring to, and not the Screenplay. It does have one USB port on it, but this is for connecting another drive or USB stick to, notto connect to PC for data transfer.

Yes, the NAS drive. Sorry, I just assumed it would connect, haven't tried it.

I ordered the ScreenPlay Plus from Iomega and can confirm they are definitely refurbished.

Mine arrived with a old broken remote containing leaking batteries. As the remote is necessary for TV playback, at the moment all I have is a 930GB external hard drive!!

Navigating Iomega's labyrinthine online customer support is proving frustrating so far.

The two drives I received, the 500gb media player and the 1gb NAS drive both look brand new, I even had to install the battery into the remote.

But you might not even need it, check yours first. (not sure how, haven't used mine yet...)

very annoying alright, however some of the newer HD TVs can process the MKV files if you plug the hard drive in via USB rather than hdmi or scart!! so now ive the best of both worlds!!

Anybody else having a problem ordering these today I have tried numerous times to buy and it keeps coming back to check my card number , telephone ,email etc , Rang visa and they said no payment had been presented to them today ,
Had one delivered yesterday and that order went through no bother last week , Customer service seems to be non existing :(

I ordered four of these today for family and myself works out under 45 each after using the code and free delivery.
Seemed to go through had a problem when the confirmation page never loaded so used the back arrow and it came up that my order had registered.
Just hope they fulfill my order now. When I log in it has my order registered but I got no order confirmation to my email.
    Fingers crossed!
