Lenses Making Objects Look Brighter? Cool Optical Illusions

Continuing on the theme of sunglasses, I have always wondered why my yellow and amber lenses always make a dull or dark day look brighter.

Seems counter-intuitive that filtering light out helps increase intensity, doesn't it? Although, my instinct tells me that it is not an "intensity thing."

Here's what I have logic'd out. Correct me if I am wrong and please offer your solutions.

Of course one major problem here is that we are bringing in perception. Rather difficult to quantify.

Let's consider the yellow lenses, like below.

Yellow glasses block blue light, correct? Doesn't blue light fall short of the retina? That's what makes things look a bit fuzzy.

Block the blue and images appear sharper. Does the blue also makes objects appear dimmer? Or, do our eyes fool us as they so often do.

Would love to hear from anyone that has studied or researched this one.

For those that seeing is believing, check out this motion induced blindness effect - very cool and a bit scary.
