    probably gimp .... but theres plenty to choose from.

    I've been using GIMP for about 6 years now. It's close to PhotoShop in its capabilities. Lots of tutorials and plug-ins available, plus you can use PhotoShop brushes in it.

    I'm after downloading that but it wont open RAW files.

    Can someone help ? please

    If you're on Windows you might have to use the RAW conversion software that came with your camera.
    There are RAW conversion programs like UFRAW and RawStudio that you should be able to download free as well.
