Too much training, collage etc has ment Im sick again. Anyone else find they come down with flu's like this?

How much do you feel it sets you back if you get sick? Id guess 7-10 days doing nothing, 7 days getting back into it and another 7 till your back to where you were. Thats a month!

Really makes you realise how important it is to not over do it and eat well, sleep well and take a rest day if needed.

Hi Scotty, sorry to hear about your situation. Part of life i guess. A few months back I was keen to see what steps people took to keep healthy so you may find this thread of interest.

    Hi Scotty,

I am in the same position aswell. I have been training hard for 6 months straight and now I got cold/flu just before the indoor season. I am so scared I will lose so much strength, power and speed :(.

I have been doing 50 Press Up a day and Plyometrics in my room just to hang on to somthing. :(

Had a bit of a fever and aches the last two days myself, woke up shivering the last two nights. Hoping to be over it tomorrow and back to just a head cold.

I've had a really bad run this year. Haven't managed to stay healthy for any extended period of time and have come down with a bad chest infection/flu again this week. Usually don't pick up bad injuries, the biggest thing that hampers me is colds and, as you mentioned, doing too much between training, life and work and not getting enough rest to keep yourself healthy.

Im out now! Could feel the throat going yesterday evening and i soaked the bed in sweat throuhg the night! Dont think training would be a good idea. Pissed off as im just over a recovery period, I'm off work til next Monday and I had a nice weeks training ahead! Hopefully it clears quick, Lemsip makes it feel ok but im not sure thats a sign that its getting better yet.

Snap. I was a little sick last week and only did a bit of training. I was nearly over it until a weekend in Galway has totally wiped me out. Grrrr

Sounds like what I had. Wake up wet and cold in bed, just couldn't get warm even tho' I was sweating all night. Early signs for me were sore bones/joints... which I had put down to the cold weather. I was out for 5/6 days.. did a couple of very easy runs during it just to clear my head/chest.

Think i might have something brewing as well.

Haven't felt right since before xmas but put my sluggishness down to change of diet, extra couple of drinks etc

Sore bones all over and sore eyes today...hopefully it's some form of aggravated man-flu. Got thru all of 2010 with nothing even approaching a cold or flu.

Had decided to stay fit but take a mini-winter break from running (a plan that was lengthened by the weather and my physio being unavailable for 4 wks).

The plan was to get back into it around now and be in half-decent shape for Dungarvan 10 at the end of the month:( Did 30 mins on cross trainers and a bit of clycling last night and feel shattered today

Am guzzling Vitamin C and echinacea so fingers crossed

Had a few months of that last year, when I seemed to be constantly getting some kind of mild illness. Looking back, a lot of it was too many races and overtraining. My immune system couldnt keep up. Im keeping a detailed offline log which lists things like sleep and nutrition and fatigue levels to try and avoid the same thing this year. Smarter not harder and all that.
