    Hmmm,

LG 42" 50HZ LED FULL HD

And the Samsung's been at this price for a few days, as I was considering it a few days ago.

Dunno about the Samsung but I can guarantee you the LG wasn't that price in PC this morning. Good to see that my competitors are busy on Christmas Eve evening.

Well, ye're still (95c) cheaper on it anyway.:p Not accusing you of anything, just making sure you don't get any of the wrong kinda surprises over the next few days.:) Their delivery charges would mean it'd be worth my while going to Curry's in Cork anyway.

Bring on competition ! Nothing like it.

But let's not forget about service too. We'll not only deliver it for free, but we'll take it to the room you want it in, remove it from its packaging and take all the packaging away too. We'll wall mount it too if you like for € 99. I've always said I'd pay € 200 for a wall mount, as I'd never get it level and I'm sure if I tried it myself I'd end up like yer man in the Currys ad

    Yeah, they're MPEG 4

Is that definite? LG site says both are standard Freeview which isnt much use here. Freeview HD models are 42LD490 and 42LE4900.

Our TV deals for Sale go live online and on TV from 20.00 tonight, so a first look here on boards.

We're leading with 2 LG deals.
    http://www.currys.ie/Product/LG-42LD450-42andquot-Full-HD-LCD-TV/297508/339.0
This is down from € 569 to € 469. And it's for all the Sale period. None of this limited stock, queue in the snow and it's all gone lark on the 26th

Argos have come in under ye on the 42LD450 TV Declan, are ye going to match it?

You'll get the same deals in PC World. We'll be carrying less stock but they'll also be available

What I'm seeing here is that it cannot be reserved for store pick up. Oldest trick in the book this, we put it out there on offer with oodles of stock in the store for customers to buy tomorrow and over the next few days. Argos undercut the price to make themselves look good but they've no stock ! So you'll have to order it and how long is that going to take ?

If stock was available our price match policy kicks in with 110% of any difference. But we implement price match when a competitor actually has product.

This is an ancient trick, gets you into store and then it's " unfortunately we don't have any more of that one, but we do have this bright shiny new model that's perfect for your needs". The only reason Argos are at that price is because we've promoted. You're obviously free to buy it at that price if you want to wait a few weeks but I'd obviously prefer if you'd come to what we call a "Real Sale", with stock to take away or be delivered in a couple of days

I had an LG screen before which was otherwise very good, but this issue ruined it really.

I have this tv reserved in Argos that I'll be going to check which model number it is in the morning, what proof will I need to take to Curry's to get a price match? There's no model code on the argos site, it looks like this though.

We'll have to have the model number and a proof that you've reserved for immediate collection. My suspicion is that this is an old clearnce model. That being the case ( tbc ) we'll implement price promise assuming we have the same clearance model. We obviously won't on brand new kit. Here's our Sale deal on Sony 40 " 1080 Net TV so I hope you can understand my suspicion on clearance

    http://www.currys.ie/Product/SONY-Bravia-KDL40EX403U-40andquot-Full-HD-LCD-TV/299561/339.0

We're € 629 on this one. Dang, thought my Sale prices were downloading to the web today but must be tomorrow

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,551 ✭✭✭Currys PC World: Declan

Have been following the separate thread on this on the forum and, surprise, surprise, it's out of stock. We did a lot of advertising on how we're the only "Real Sale", insofar as we put our deals on the table, we've lots of stock to back them up and customers don't have to freak out as to whether they'll get the deal or not. Buying a new TV should be enjoyable and stress free. T'would be nice if everyone would do likewise and just make it easy for customers to make up their minds.....

Have to go now or I'll be shot. Back in the morning or later if I can sneak a peek !!

According to this site, in the UK, the current price for that model (KDL-40EX403U 40") is £350 stg. (= E412 per ex.com)

You would want to bring your price of E629 down by E200 in order to be competitive with that.

My wife and son are talking the inticacies of higher level Maths ( way above my head ) so I can venture an answer here. I have my team teed up to talk in the morning about what deals have appeared over the weekend and how to respond . I replied to Park Ji Sung on my clearance suspicions on this model. Ann, my product manager for TV, is available in the morning and I'll consult with her and post before 11.

Cheers Declan. You have just taken 900 quid from my possession for 2 x LG 42" fulln HD sets. Mark ( blanchardstown ) matched the 449 from Argos; great gut to deal with. A shedload of brownie points with Mother in Law have just been accumulated :)

Delighted to have you as a customer. And you got in with Mark ahead of the general briefing to managers that Argos have no stock of this and so no requirement to match.

So you have a guaranteed best price guarantee on all stock, as long as it's from a bricks and mortar shop in Ireland with stock?

I have. The Sony is a BX 400, which is a lower spec than the model we range. Ann says the main difference in in sound quality. I don't have a spec sheet

We've had a price promise for a long time. Taking the Argos example, if they had stock available to take away today there would be immediate price match plus 10 % of any difference. All it has to be is the same model.

Had a chat with Ann and the 3D is your only option. But even this is not net enabled. You'd have to go to the 7 series for that. Trying to get a price for this
