some of the copper in the house feeding the rads seems to be froze-what are the chances of this burst pipes later with these ?

Were you out of the house for a few days? If you do think the water in the heating pipes is frozen and its a sealed system you could close all the rads which would minimise the amount of water to very little if a pipe was burst. I would make sure you know exactly where the mains valve is too in case you need to shut it off quickly.

Is the water gone in the cold tap into the house? Heating up the house with electric heaters might help. Did you check how much water is in the attic tank?

oil boiler outside was off a short while and pipes froze-i forgot to leave boiler running at low setting

    mains water is off locally

i'll turn off the rads anyhow-

I had attic tank mains feed freeze yesterday, tank then emptied and feed to shower froze. Mad this year the weather. Forced the water from hot water cylinder up into attic tank to sort it. Id say there will be plenty of burst pipes around over the christmas.
