neighbourhood delinquent kids throwing ice

Hi there, I'm posting here because at this stage this is a personal issue for me.

I live in the city centre of Dublin, in Dublin 2, near a block of council flats, which is closeby to Camden Street, Harcourt Street Dublin area. I'm not from Dublin but I've been here a while now.

There are some delinquent children of about 10-17 yearss of age who have been pelting the cars with snow balls (some with rocks, as someone's had their windscreen smashed), they're very recognisable as they have the same coats and hats on every day and have been about more since the snow.

Yesterday as I was walking with a friend we passed these children but they weren't in the same usual place, they were further down the road, suddenly, a big lump of ice taken from the side of the road was thrown at my head, it didn't even break when it hit me it felt like a huge stone. I was knocked to the ground face first, and the kids made a run for it when they saw me fall. They were laughing and shouting seemed generally chuffed with themselves. I'm nursing a very sore head today and it feels like my head is swelled on the inside!

Is there anything I can do or anyone I can contact to make sure this does not happen to someone else? I'm very very annoyed and sore.

If you can identify them and you have a witness you can go to your local Garda station and ask for charges of assault to be raised at them. - though in the long run that might make you more of a target.

The other option is to find out who your community garda is and have a quiet word with them.

See its kids like that that make me believe in forced sterilisation with only licenses being granted to those who prove themselves capable parents.

If that happened to me I would come back the next day, catch one, and beat seven shades of crap out of it. That is the only way to deal scumbags, they don't fear the guards at all.

We were in the same situation when it snowed last time, except the kids starting walking into our front garden. We kept ringing the gardai but nothing was getting done, they wouldn't even come down to us.

One night they ended up braking my car window so we reported it and contacted but we were pretty much told there was nothing they could do. We contacted the county council, a representative came to our house to talk about the issue and contacted gardai to give them clear instructions as to what they should be doing.

Since then we've been contacted again by gardai about the issue and I think they've visited some of the kids's houses (they usually know who they are).

We were dreading the snow thinking the same thing would happen, but not a bother. So my advice is keep ringing the gardai, report incidents if necessary and contact your county council.

A good councillor can help here, do you know who is your local rep is?

Thanks for the replies, I don't know who the rep is but I can look into it and see. I hate the idea of anyone else getting hit over the head lke that, it's very violent and quite striking, as I think about the older kids, today it's snow and rocks, tomorrow, who knows.

I could identify who these kids are but I don't know what blocks they live in or whether the gardai would, but surely there has to be someone who is involved in youth-reach programs or whatnot who is in touch with these children , given the area they are in. I can find this out after christmas.

If it happens again I would love to take one of these children by the arm and go speak to their mothers but I'm afraid of what that could mean for me, so won't be doing that!

    Hey Op.
Same kids got me with snowballs yesterday. We were on the 83 parked at the traffic lights and the kids used the emergency handles to open the door and pelted everyone on the bus with ice. Was left with some pretty bad bruises and a girl on the bus was cut quite bad. Rang the Garda but as usual they did sweet feck all

Cheers for the messages, yeah the fact that they are so calculating is very worrying. I have seen some guys going after these kids but they're quick.

Their parent(s) , I'd say, would be aware of what they're doing. My guess is that they don't care.

Keep reporting to the gardai. If you can take photos take photos. If you can take videos take video.
