    did you vote?

perhaps we are too snobby for that populist drivel although to be fair to dave he played songs at the end of last nights show that only got 1 vote, some burial, house of love, the wedding present and wilco

expect a lot of u2 and radiohead songs

I don't mind it to be honest, some good tunes on it and I'll be listening, still I'll never like u2 and I just don't have any feeling for bono's voice

    any thoughts on the show?

The first place I ever heard Smells Like Teen Spirit was on Fanning's Fab 50 in 1991. I followed it every year from then on for about a decade.

I haven't listened to it in years but I always have a read of what made the list at some point.

Do Snow Patrol still feature strongly? That always irked me.

I remember taping this show once! Thats how cool I thought it was. :o

In fairness you could do a lot worse (cough cough Ray Foley cough cough)

Yeah plenty of U2, Radiohead and Bob Dylan.

The Fab50 used to be brilliant. Bad (Live) by U2 was number 1 for a good few years in a row, up to about 91 or 92 I think? Dead right too :). A Forest by The Cure, Debaser, and I am the resurrection were nearly always in the top 10 as well. Do any of those tunes still get anywhere in the 50?

    It's gone to the dogs.

I wouldn't be surprised, in fact i'd fully expect:
    - several King's of Leon entries
    - a Coronas number in there somewhere
    - Snow Patrol in the top 10.

I'd much rather hear 50 songs that only got one vote.

I used to always tape this off the radio a few years back. Haven't listened to it the past few years because it's pretty much always the same songs every year. You're pretty much guaranteed to hear U2 - 'With or Without You', Nirvana - 'Smells Like Teen Spirit', Radiohead - 'Fake Plastic Trees', The Stone Roses - 'I Am The Resurrection' and Oasis - 'Don't Look Back In Anger' and a few other usual suspects.

You used always have A Forest by the Cure and Debaser by the Pixies in it as well. I havent heard it in years. Disappointing to hear that the perennial bedwetters Snow Patrol are making it in there.

I have a drawer full of tapes out in my shed from when i used to tape it ever year. Must go and root them out sometime.

Well it's voted by listeners so it just reflects the taste of people who listen to his show. Fanning doesn't have the same audience numbers he used to have.

There's no credibility left in radio anymore, concerning good music I mean. I stopped listening to music shows years ago! Dave Fanning is dried up, radio needs new heads to introduce more variety. The general public may vote for his Fab 50, but they're listening to what he's playing on the radio, or what other like minded djs are playing.
