    Hi

With the new year coming up and a bad year ending I want to turn my life around.
    Has anyone done this successfully?
Is there any online websites or blogs that someone has done while turning they're life around? like an online journal were they have posted they're progress from start to finish?
I'm trying to gather as much information and motivation as I can so any suggestions at all would be great.

    Thanks

There's a site similar to boards called takethislife.com: it's a site based around depression support. There's a 'Getting Better' and 'Goals' forum where people post their progress; have a look :)

I successfully turned my life around. This time last year I was over weight, had no girlfriend, drank way too much and generally hated life and everyone in it. At the start of 2010 I made a list of things I did not like about myself; my appearance, how much I drank, the fact that I was single, etc and vowed to change every one of them in the year ahead. It was hard work, it did take a lot of effort but I got there. I lost close to 40 lbs, really cut back on my drinking and got myself a girlfriend who I love dearly and would do anything for. I'm also way more positive now.

I read "Start Where You Are" by Christopher Gardner (the dude that The Pursuit of Happyness is based on) and it got me thinking. You only get one chance at life, so why spend it miserable or doing things you don't want to do? You have the power to change everything about yourself.

If you want to take this to PM feel free to do so. I could talk for hours about this.

www.stevepavlina.com is a website I'd recommend for improving all aspects of your life! There are hundreds of articles, he's a clever guy and it's very motivating to read. Best of luck, and happy New Year! :)

I would love to read your story somewhere. You should have done a blog or something..!

OP, I suppose 'turning your life around' depends on the specific aspects that you'd like to change; maybe start by examining the reasons why you think you might be unhappy.. is it your career/relationships/self-esteem etc, and see what constructive steps you can take to make a positive change. Just remember though, a book or website alone won't do the work, changing your life requires vast amounts of effort and energy; as seen above, however, its far from impossible!

I also completely changed my life OP, it took just over 3 years to hit my goals but I done it:D

I was stuck in the same little world I built for myself for 5 years at that stage, had very little contact with anyone and mostly stayed indoors with my bad diet, bad skin and computer games and tv. I had aspirations to stop myself being a social outcast, get fit, and further educate myself and slowly but surely, with dedication, it happened.

In those 3 years I've made countless friends (2 new best friends), had amazing times with my friends, visited most counties on the island (something I've always wanted to do), lost weight, ran a marathon and I'm now in 3rd level education pursuing a career I would love to get into:)

I sincerely wish you luck in your goals, you should take it in small steps...make short term but attainable goals, that will help you to achieve medium to long term goals along the way.

Only you can turn your life around, and to do that you need to remain positive and have hell-bent determination to do it. Seeking advice in the way that you have might help give you a little push, but what you need to do realistically is draw up a list of things that you would like to achieve. Once you have those goals in focus, you have a direction, something to work for.

You'll be surprised how little successes along the way to your main aims help you gather more and more positivity and indeed confindence in yourself that you can actually do this.

I'm at a bit of a cross-roads myself, and have a long way ahead of me. I never allow myself to become over-whelmed by the long road ahead, I've little things I want to achieve first, then I'm sure I'll be well on my way.

    Best of luck OP :)

Second, found his stuff very useful - very practical, almost CBT-ish in his approach.

I have made quite a lot of changes in the past year, There is still so much more I want to achieve. My advice would be, Set realistic goals. Where would you like to be in five years time? How can you implement these changes in the coming year? Don't be too hard on yourself and set out a plan.
